350 Million years in the making...
Halifax Stone is a privately-owned natural limestone quarry located 1 hour outside Halifax, in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. Our company has been cutting quality limestone since 2001. Our Limestone deposit is 350 million years old and has fossil inclusions (clamshells; plants; and a remnant of a shark skull, which is currently being studied at the Nova Scotia Museum of History).
The building stone is cut 3-1/2" thick and the veneer is cut 1" thick. 90 degree corners are also done on site. Custom cuts are also available.

Limestone in architecture
Many landmarks across the world, including the Great Pyramid and its associated complex in Giza, Egypt, are made of limestone. So many buildings in Kingston, Ontario, Canada were constructed from it that it is nicknamed the 'Limestone City'. On the island of Malta, a variety of limestone called Globigerina limestone was, for a long time, the only building material available, and is still very frequently used on all types of buildings and sculptures. Limestone is readily available and relatively easy to cut into blocks or more elaborate carving. It is also long-lasting and stands up well to exposure.
